Church & Community Agent
Yohan is from Colombia, South America. He was inspired to apply to Duke Divinity School after participating in the annual Summer Institute for Reconciliation at Duke Divinity School in 2019. Describing his experience as an ecumenical, scholarly, interdisciplinary, inclusive, and spiritually revitalizing environment, Yohan concluded that Duke was the ideal academic community to continue his theological and ministerial formation. The Thriving Communities Fellowship fit perfectly with the vocational and ministerial profile he wants to develop and admires how the Ormond Center works to serve the church, society, and the academy together.
Yohan is pursuing a Certificate in Faith-based Organizing, Advocacy, and Social Transformation that prepares students for social, political, and economic community development work from a Christian perspective. He is also pursuing a Certificate in International Development Policy (IPD) from Duke’s Sanford School of Public Policy.
After graduation from Duke Divinity School, Yohan hopes to pursue a PhD or ThD (doctor of theology), and to begin his ministerial career. He hopes to generate knowledge and ideas that translate into faithful ways of reimagining and practicing the church’s mission alongside faith-based organizing in contexts affected by poverty, violence, and exclusion.
In his free time, Yohan enjoys taking walks and watching movies with his wife.
